About the Carnivorous Species Print
Carnivorous plants are some of the most fascinating plants on earth and it was a longtime goal of mine to do a series focused on them. Some of these paintings, like the Nepenthes rafflesiana, were painted directly from plants that I am growing myself.
-
Drosera intermedia
-
Sarracenia flava
-
Nepenthes 'Briggsiana'
-
Sarracenia purpurea
While looking for reference material for this series of paintings I had the opportunity so see several of these plants growing in the wild here in Florida and in North Carolina. Many carnivorous plants are endangered in habitat, so it was a special opportunity to be able to see and appreciate how these plants evolved to survive in their native environments.
This print illustrates the diversity of carnivorous plants that are found around the world, from the tropical rainforests to temperate bogs, and the different structures and methods that they use to catch their prey. I even painted few small bugs for the print to give the plants something to eat!
