Ficus Species Print
Ficus Species Print
Share
This print features illustrations of twenty-five different plants from the genus Ficus - including popular houseplant varieties like the fiddle leaf fig (Ficus lyrata), the edible common fig (Ficus carica), and even rare tropical species such as the Mosaic fig (Ficus aspera).
12" x 16"
Printed on heavy weight 300gsm 100% cotton paper. I selected this paper for its similar look and feel to the cotton hot press watercolor paper I paint on.
Printed using pigment based archival inks in my home studio in Southwest Florida.
I hand sign each print with a graphite pencil. My signature is inconspicuous and can be found in the bottom right corner of the print.
Open edition
Unframed
Ships flat in a protective sleeve, on an acid-free backing board.
About the Ficus Species Print
The Painting Process
Each Ficus species on this print was originally hand painted in watercolor. I wanted to focus mostly on the different types of leaves found in the genus for this print, but I also featured a few examples of fruit as well - including the edible fig, Ficus carica.

F. elastica 'Ruby' and 'Shivereana'
Ficus is an interesting and diverse genus, and I was fortunate to have access to a wide range of species growing in Florida to use as reference for this print. While some of the more colorful varieties on this print are popular houseplants, other species grow into large trees, such as this Banyan (Ficus benghalensis) at the Edison Ford Estates here in Fort Myers.
